The AI Insight
Claude Is Not One Tool. It Is Five Layers.
The map I wish I'd had six months ago.
|
|
Here's the thing about Claude right now.
It's not one tool anymore.
If you've been trying to keep up with what Anthropic keeps shipping (Skills, Cowork, Claude Design, MCP, Claude in Excel, on and on), you've probably hit the same wall I did. Which one is for what? When do I use a Skill vs a regular chat? What's the difference between Artifacts and Claude Design?
I finally sat down and mapped out everything so it made sense for my brain and put things in layers. Every Claude product fits into one. Once I had this picture, it was easier to understand how to use the tool.

The Build
The 5 Layers of Claude
|
|
Here's the high-level map. The full breakdown lives on the blog.
|
The 5 Layers of Claude
01. The Conversation Layer. Where you think, plan, and draft. Chat, Projects, Memory.
02. The Reusable Workflow Layer. Where the work compounds. Skills.
03. The Visual and Interactive Layer. Where you see it before you build it. Artifacts and Claude Design.
04. The Agentic Layer. Where Claude does the actual work. Cowork, Claude in Excel, Claude in Chrome, Claude Code.
05. The Connection Layer. Where Claude talks to your other tools. MCP.
|
Two things worth knowing.
Most people never leave Layer 1. That's a problem because Layer 2 is where everything changes.
Layer 4 is the one I'm most excited about. The agents that actually do the work. But I'd hold off on that one until you've built your Layer 2 muscle. Start with Skills.

Your Move
What I'd Do This Week
If you're new to Claude, get comfortable at Layer 1 first. Chat. Projects. Memory.
If you've been at Layer 1 for a while and you keep rewriting the same kinds of prompts, that's the signal. Move to Layer 2.
The jump from prompts to Skills changed everything for me. Bigger output, less time, and work that finally sounds like me.
Pick the one that fits where you are. Make a small move this week.

Go build something, Destini

P.S. The Evergreen Engine sprint kicks off TODAY at 1pm ET. Five days of building an evergreen webinar funnel for your signature offer — your course, program, or membership (not a tripwire funnel). You walk away with five Custom Claude Skills you keep forever (the exact ones I use in my own evergreen funnel). Plus you get to submit one piece of your funnel — sales page, registration page, email sequence, your pick — for direct feedback from me. Submission deadline is Thursday, May 29. If you've been sitting on your evergreen build, this is the week to get it done. Join the sprint →
P.P.S. Already in the Creator's MBA Mastermind? You're in. No extra cost, no extra hoops. Not in yet and want all of it (this sprint, every future sprint, the whole thing)? Join the Mastermind → instead.
