It was Spring break and I was sitting at the breakfast table of our Watercolor, FL beach rental, coffee in my hand, early in the morning before anyone else had gotten up.

I was browsing on a business name generator website called Namelix. This was way before ChatGPT or any of the other AI generators had gotten popular.

I didn't really have a goal in mind, but was thinking of purchasing a domain name IF I found one that I could do something with.

Then I ran across HobbyScool.

And thought...this is a cool name. I bet I could do build this into something special.

Fast forward to now, in my recent podcast episode on the Creator's MBA podcast, I walk you through the journey of how I grew this digital product business to over $100K in revenue and 16K email subscribers in less than two years.

It hasn't been easy and there has been ups and downs for sure. But definitely possible, because if I can do it, anyone can.

When you hear the term “passive income” or the promise of “making money while you sleep,” what does that mean to you?

Many new business owners take these phrases at face value or buy into the hype without fully understanding what it requires.

They dive into creating digital products like online courses, expecting effortless success (because that’s what they’ve been told), only to find themselves in a different reality.

I’ve noticed that most people fall into one of two categories:

1. They struggle to gain traction selling their digital products, wondering what they’re missing while others seem to thrive.

or

2. They resort to constant live launches to keep revenue flowing. Their days are packed with Zoom calls, managing memberships, running group coaching programs, and dealing with the demands of a bustling Facebook group.

It’s an endless cycle of marketing, social media posting, and algorithm-worrying, turning what was supposed to be a passion project into a demanding 60+ hour workweek, often working weekends.

In both scenarios, the dream of a flexible, fulfilling business goes away, and a traditional 9 to 5 job starts to look better every single day.
