If You Can Do 3rd Grade Math, You Can Find Your Funnel Problem

Seriously. Four numbers and a calculator. That's it.

I know "funnel math" sounds like something that requires a spreadsheet and a strong cup of coffee. It doesn't. I promise.

Your tripwire funnel has four stages. Each one has a number attached to it. When something's off, one of those numbers is going to look way worse than the others — and that's your answer. No guessing, no gut feelings, no "maybe I need a rebrand."

Here's what to pull and what the numbers should look like:

The Tripwire Funnel: 4 Numbers to Check

1. Opt-In Page Conversion Rate

Your free gift page. Healthy rate: 30–50%. Below that — the problem is usually your headline or offer clarity. People aren't connecting what you're promising to what they actually want.

2. Tripwire Take Rate

Of the people who opt in, how many buy? Aim for 3–10%. Under that — the offer doesn't feel like a natural next step from the freebie, or the price-to-value isn't landing.

3. Order Bump Take Rate

Of buyers, how many add the order bump at checkout? Solid benchmark: around 30%. Low numbers usually mean the bump doesn't feel like a no-brainer — it should feel like the obvious companion to what they just bought.

4. Upsell Take Rate

Of buyers, how many take the upsell? Healthy range: 10–20%. If it's low, the upsell is either too big a price leap or not positioned as the clear next step in their journey.

Pull up your numbers right now and just look. Which stage is the weakest compared to these benchmarks? That's where to focus first. You don't need to overhaul everything — fix the one stage that's furthest off and watch what happens to the rest.
