Your freebie isn't broken. It's pointed at the wrong person.
Why topic-first freebies fill your list with people who will never buy.

You built the lead magnet. You promoted it. You watched the subscribers roll in. Then you sent your first email sequence, and almost nobody bought.
This is one of the most common stuck points I see. The freebie is doing its job at the top of the funnel. The list is growing. But the new subscribers are not buyers. They grabbed the freebie, read one email, and never came back.
Here is what is actually going wrong. The freebie was not built around a specific buyer. It was built around a topic. And a topic-first freebie attracts topic-curious people, not buyers.
Most lead magnets are built forward. You pick a topic you can teach well, build the freebie, then hope the right person opts in. The best ones are built backward. You start with the buyer of one paid offer, then work back to the freebie that attracts that exact person.

The 3-Sentence Buyer Test
1. Who they are. Their situation and where they are right now, whether that is a business stage or a life stage.
2. What they want. The specific outcome they are paying for.
3. What they have already tried. The failed attempts that led them to you.
Then ask one question: does my freebie attract that person? If the answer is no, you just found your leak.

Once you know who the freebie is for, the build is the easy part. That is not how it used to be. The build is the step that scares most people off. Not anymore. I open Claude, describe the page I want, and have a landing page live on HTML Pub in minutes. No builder. No waiting on a designer. No fighting with a template that almost does what I need.
