My sister built a whole business with ChatGPT

Hey [First Name],

Back in January my sister texted me. Mom told her to reach out, because I'm the one in the family who works in online business.

She'd started an ecommerce brand, a sweatshirt line, and when we got on the phone I realized she'd already built the whole thing. The Shopify store, the email setup, the Instagram, the Pinterest, all of it. And it looked great.

So I asked who was helping her. A coach, a course, anything? Because this isn't even my world, I don't do ecommerce. She said no. Just ChatGPT.

I was floored. My sister is a CPA. She's in finance, she's brilliant, but she has zero background in online marketing. And she built a real business in a couple of months with a chatbot walking her through it.

Here's where she got stuck though. Customers. ChatGPT kept telling her to post on Instagram and Pinterest and send people to her store. So I pulled up a competitor she knew in the Facebook ad library and showed her they were probably spending $30,000 a month or more on ads. AI had built her the whole machine, but it couldn't tell her the one thing that actually mattered, which was how to get people in the door.

This was eye opening to me. Because if my sister can build the entire thing with AI, then building the thing isn't where the value is anymore. The value is in knowing what AI won't tell you, the judgment and the strategy and which move actually matters.

So this month I took my own business apart with that in mind. I asked myself one question about each thing I was doing. Is this still working, or am I just keeping it because I built it?

That's how I ended up closing my HelloContent store and walking away from Pinterest after seven or eight years. Neither was easy, but both were the right call for where things are headed.
