Stage 3 of 5 · Nurture

The Audience That Engages but Won't Buy

Trust compounds. So does the revenue that follows it.

I did a hot seat this week with Allie from Allie Scraps. She came in with 13,000 subscribers, 40% open rates, and 3-5% click-throughs. Genuinely healthy numbers. She's not struggling to attract people or get them to open emails.

But she wasn't making sales. As we dug in, the reason was clear: she'd been nurturing without ever pitching. Every email delivered value. Nothing ever led anywhere. Her subscribers trusted her, but they'd been trained to expect free content and that's all they expected.

I see this all the time. Having great engagement is not the same as having a buying audience. You have to deliberately build the bridge from subscriber to customer.

The 1% Move

Send One Teach & Pitch Email This Week

The Teach & Pitch Method is what I teach inside Newsletter Profit Club for exactly this. The structure is simple. Your email has two parts. The first teaches something genuinely useful. No strings attached. The second pitches your offer in a way that connects naturally to what you just taught.

The key is the connection. If you teach about building a consistent creative practice and then pitch a membership that holds people accountable, that's a natural bridge. If you teach one thing and pitch something unrelated, it breaks the flow and people feel sold to rather than helped.

This week's move

Write one Teach & Pitch email. Pick a topic your audience already cares about, teach one useful thing, and end with a natural pitch to a paid offer. The connection between the two is the whole move. If you have to force it, pick a different topic.

Most creators resist this because they don't want to feel pushy. Here's the thing: your subscribers aren't going to volunteer to buy. They're busy. They need to be asked. A clear, relevant pitch isn't pushy. It actually respects both their time and their problem.

Do it consistently for 60 days and two things happen: your revenue picks up, and your subscribers start to expect the pitch the same way they expect good content. You've changed what your newsletter is for.
