Build the Lead Magnet That Fills Your List

The Mini Magazine Method below only pays off if people are on your list to read it. Beyond the PDF is my free event to build a modern lead magnet that actually converts, and it runs through the end of the month. During the free Get It Done Week, July 27 to 31, you build one, one step a day, and end the week with something live.

This Week's Deep Dive

Why Your Favorite Magazine Never Felt Like Spam

The Mini Magazine Method, and how to make your weekly send something people look forward to.

Say you spend this month building a better lead magnet. New subscribers start coming in. Then what happens? For most creators, the answer is nothing. The new subscriber gets a promo blast, or silence, and a few weeks later they don't remember signing up.

The lead magnet gets them in the door. What keeps them is the email they get from you every week. And most of those are forgettable, because they have no shape. It's a wall of text, or a single pitch, and the reader has no reason to open the next one.

I spent six months studying the newsletters people actually pay for and open every week. The successful ones had a pattern. They treated the newsletter like a small magazine. Think back to a magazine you loved as a kid and how you felt when it landed in the mailbox. You knew what was inside. You flipped to your section first. That feeling is the whole point.

That's the Mini Magazine Method. Instead of one long block, each issue has three to five recurring sections. The reader skims, lands on the part they care about, and reads it. Your name in the inbox stops being one more thing to delete and starts being something they open on purpose.

Three sections to steal

1. A short teaching piece. One useful idea they can act on this week.

2. A curated pick. A tool, article, or resource you're into right now.

3. One clear next step. The offer, gently, tied to what you just taught.

That third section is where the money is, and it's the part most people get wrong. You don't need a separate sales email. You teach something real, then point to the natural next step. That's the Teach & Pitch Method. Do it in every issue, gently, and selling stops feeling like a launch and starts feeling like a recommendation.

Pick your three to five sections this week and use the same ones every issue. The structure does the heavy lifting. You stop staring at a blank page, and your reader always knows what they're getting.

And it only works if people are on your list to begin with. That's the tie-in this week. Build the lead magnet that grows the list, then keep that list with a newsletter they actually open.
