Deep Dive

Where does your newsletter need AI first?

If you send a newsletter every week and you're doing most of it yourself, it can take up a big part of your week.

And a lot of the time it isn't the writing that takes the longest. It's coming up with the idea, getting the draft to sound like you, formatting it, scheduling it, checking the links and writing the social posts that go with it.

Then after all of that, the email often doesn't point to anything you sell, so it isn't bringing in any money.

When most people start using AI on their newsletter, they start with the writing and they do it one prompt at a time. That can save you some time, but it doesn't change the part where the newsletter isn't making you money.

I look at a newsletter in three parts, and AI helps with each one in a different way.

The three parts of your newsletter

Write It. This is where you get your hours back, with things like a voice file, a Claude skill or a scheduled task that takes an issue from a voice note to a scheduled send.

Grow It. This is where you get more of the right readers, by turning followers into subscribers, pulling new angles from content you already have and getting found in AI search.

Get Paid. This is where the list brings in money, from your own offers, sponsors and affiliate income, with a plan for what each issue points to.

You don't need to fix all three at once. Start with the one that's costing you the most right now, and these three questions will help you figure out which one that is.

Ask yourself

1. Does each issue take you most of a day? Start with Write It.

2. Are you sending to about the same number of people you were six months ago? Start with Grow It.

3. Are people opening your emails but you can't point to a sale that came from one? Start with Get Paid.

If you answered yes to more than one, start with Get Paid. When each issue points to something you sell, the time you put into it starts paying you back.

I'm teaching this live on Tuesday, October 27 at noon ET to open the AI Newsletter Summit. You'll take a short quiz during the session that scores your newsletter on all three parts, so you know exactly which workshops to watch first.
