Everything is changing, but I think this is good news...

CREATOR'S MBA NEWSLETTER

Welcome to the Creator's MBA, a weekly newsletter sharing actionable marketing advice to grow an online digital product business with ~10,000 readers every week. Was this sent to you? Subscribe here so you don't miss the next one.

Hi Reader,

I read this past week in Ann Handley's newsletter that "If a CMO went to sleep in 1994 and woke up today, she'd think she was on another planet."

This month back in 1994, I had just graduated from Clemson University, gotten married in my parent's backyard (if you're doing the math, my 30-year anniversary was Tuesday), and started my first "real" job as an accountant.

Yes, everything has changed over 30 years, but isn't that expected?

I would argue that so much has changed just in the past two years in marketing our online businesses.

Are you feeling it too?

Here are just two quick examples:

  • An online business owner told me this past week that she has lost 40% of her SEO traffic from Google which drove a major part of her revenue.
  • AI is changing about everything we do. And it feels like it is taking over our life.

But some things haven't changed in the past 30 years and I would argue, will never change.

And that is people like to buy from people that they know, like, and trust.

This type of trust cannot be won by just anyone. This type of trust can only be built through honesty, integrity, and consistency through personal interaction.

Why consistency you may ask?

Consistency create relationships.

It lets folks know that you are here for the long term. That you're not just a Tinder type date who's here today and gone tomorrow.

Just like the Gen Zs who are ditching the dating apps for in real life experiences, so are your potential customers.

They want to see you, interact with you, and hear you. And not just when you're promoting your next big launch.

If you feel like you haven't pin pointed the pain point of your ideal customer or don't know exactly how you can help them, try having in real life conversations.

This may include things like:

  • Hosting an Ask Me Anything session
  • Opening up your calendar for 20-minute let's chat about xyz
  • Having a DM conversation with someone who may be interested in joining your program rather than simply relying on the sales page to convert them

There is so much opportunity here for people who're willing to just have personal 1:1 conversations.

Which leads me to this...

If you're stuck in your business - can't figure out the right offer(s) for your ideal customer, need help with accountability and focus, want another viewpoint or eyes on what you're working on - and are interested in working with me, let's chat.

During this call, we'll map out a unique three-step plan to grow your digital product revenue, focusing on your key activities so you're not spinning your wheels on things that won't drive your business forward.

And it may include having some real life conversations. Which I think is good for everyone.

Last week, I had the chance to sit down in a VIP Day with Braden Drake from Not Your Average Law Firm to trademark three of my brands - HelloContent, HobbyScool and the Creator's MBA.

πŸ’‘ QUICK TIP

These headlines always work

Whenever I see a headline like these, I click.

  • I'm a pro shopper β€” here's my wish list from Lululemon's We Made Too Much drop.
  • I'm a real estate agent - here's what you need to do to sell your house at top dollar (even in a buyer's market)
  • I'm a nutritionist - here are the foods I avoid even though they seem healthy

Wish list from Lululemon? Why yes, I want to build mine too!

Sell my house for top dollar? Absolutely! I don't want to leave money on the table.

Foods I need to avoid that seem healthy? Crap - am I eating them now? I'd better click to find out!

These headlines work because they tap into the expertise of a professional (YOU!), making them trustworthy and interesting.

Respond to this email and let me know: how can you use this headline structure in your business?

The AIDA Model: A Proven Framework for Converting Strangers Into Customers

I'm putting on my marketing professor hat this morning.

Have you ever heard of the AIDA Model?

It stands for "Attention, Interest, Desire & Action" and describes the four stages that your customer will go through before making a buying decision.

I use this model for most of my sales info pages for my digital products.

What's interesting about this framework? It was described way back in 1898 and is still a solid framework today.

See, some things never change.

Study it. Learn it. And get ready for your test next week (just kidding).

Get your free AIDA model template here.

I stole this from the Stacked Marketer newsletter:

"You’re one coffee, one newsletter, and one lunch away from the weekend.
And by β€œone newsletter,” I obviously mean mine.
If you don’t read it, no weekend for you. Sorry, I don’t make the rules."

But since you made it all the way to the bottom, enjoy your weekend. You have my permission to take off the rest of the afternoon for a Summer Friday!

Keep creating, and I'll talk with you next week!
